Space and materiality

Week 1

The very first class of space and materiality begun with a introduction and a small discussion on what we are gonna do in the upcoming weeks. And we were told to visit the market and research a few manmade and natural materials and bring them to the next class.

In the second half of the class we were taken to the workshop and a small introduction took place between the students and the faculty’s and then we were told about the basic rules which were to be followed in the workshop then we got introduced to the machines and tools which were there which was very new to me and we were briefed about them.

Week 2

The class started by showing and discussing on the materials which we brought then we were asked to make a sheet on which we had to stick different materials and write a brief description about it.

After that we were asked to make coasters out of the MDF sheets then we started it by sketching the coaster designs and then after getting it approved we went to the workshop and started to drill and engrave them.

Week 3

The class started by showing our coasters and getting them marked .

After that we were introduced to the different types of grips and were asked to go out and explore different types of grips and click pictures of the same we were supposed to click 6 pictures of 5 grips from different angles. After returning to the class we got the pictures approved and started sketching them out.

Week 4

The class started by showing our sketches of grips and we were asked to choose one of those and make abstract drawings from different angles converting the grips to abstract forms.

Week 5

The class started with the discussion on what is a prototype and what is it’s importance and then we discussed about different materials which we can use to make the prototype. And we also decided on the measurements for the model for which we made the technical drawings.

Week 6

We started making the prototype i chose clay for my prototype and completed it in the class.

Week 7

After completing the prototype in the previous class we were asked to make the final model with combining two materials I chose foil cotton and plaster of paris for my final model.
